WATERSHED EXHIBIT
The Watershed Exhibit was established through a cooperation of the Lafayette Science Museum and the Bayou Vermilion District. The exhibit explores the role of water on Earth by tracing the movement of water from the atmosphere to our Bayou Vermilion Watershed and Ecosystem.
The exhibit includes several interactive displays that demonstrate the different interactions of water on our planet. During a visit to the Watershed Exhibit, you will be able to explore the interconnections of planetary heat distribution due to:
- Seasons;
- Seasonal weather phenomenon;
- The water cycle;
- The life cycle of plants and animals;
- The physics of watersheds;
- The effects of water on humanity;
- The effects of humanity on water.
The Exhibit Explores Aspects of:
Astronomy
How the location of Earth and our planet’s axial tilt dictate planetary cycles
Meteorology
How weather phenomena are connected to seasonal heat distribution on our planet
Geology
The movement of the Earth’s crust and the shaping of the continents
Hydrology
How water moves underground and on the surface of the Earth, and shapes the environment
Geography
How land is eroded and formed relating to Louisiana’s changing coastline
Ecosystem Biology
What lives here and the interaction between the various parts
Watershed Exhibit Tours can be tailored to the grade and interest level of individual groups and should be scheduled in advance.
Tours last about 45 minutes. Groups of approximately 20-25 are optimum.
Watershed Exhibit Tours can be scheduled as an individual activity block as a part of Group Tour of Vermilionville. Or, as a part of our 3 ½ hour Environmental Science Tour Package.
