Créole Culture Day (with Schedule)

Vermilionville

The public can enjoy a FREE FESTIVAL at Vermilionville for the 20th annual Creole Culture Celebration on Sunday, June 12, 2022 from 10AM - 5PM.  We'll celebrate with live music, cooking demonstrations, juré performances, storytelling, kids’ crafts, art, museum, and photography exhibits, Zydeco dance lessons, genealogy experts, traiteur garden tours, documentaries, and much more! Every year, Vermilionville celebrates the cultures of Acadiana that contributed so much to our unique folklife. Come to Vermilionville June 12 for our Creole Culture Day event!  On this day we recognize and honor our region’s Creole heritage. So much of our food, traditions, and music comes to our region from the Creole culture, and on this day we demonstrate and celebrate its many contributions to our contemporary folklife. With our partners at C.R.E.O.L.E. Inc, and support from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, Lafayette Consolidated Government, the Bayou Vermilion District, and the Vermilionville Living History Museum Foundation, this year’s celebration of the Creole culture and history is an event not to be missed.  We’ll commemorate the fascinating Creole story in our festival area and spread through our historic village. BVD’s Bayou Festival and Boat Parade

Vermilionville

Save the date for one of the best days on the bayou all year 'round! Gather your friends, your canoe, your cooler, your fiddle, your best costumes, your dog, whatever, and get ready to join us for a day to celebrate the Bayou Vermilion! This is going to be a great time on the water, and we want you to come a be a part of it. The parade will set sail at 11:30 AM from the dock at Vermilionville, and wind all along the bayou to Southside Park. At the park, we'll have food and drinks, games, and music! More details to come. Want to paddle but have no boat? The BVD has got you covered. We've got canoes and kayaks available to help you get in the water and experience our own Bayou Vermilion! The public can enjoy a FREE FESTIVAL at Vermilionville for the 21st annual Créole Culture Celebration on Sunday, June 11, 2023 from 10AM - 5PM.  We'll celebrate with live music from Herb Green Drummers, Cedryl Ballou & the Zydeco Trendsetters, and Donna Angelle and the Zydeco Posse. There will be cooking demonstrations by Sweet Envie, our own Ms. Deloris and a wine-making demonstration with Mr. Paul Cluse. Louisiana Poet Laureate Johnathan Mayers will share his writing, and Joe Hall will speak about the history, changes and traditions of Creole & Zydeco music. Also, enjoy juré performances, storytelling, kids’ crafts, art from Erica Melancon Fox, museum, and photography exhibits, Zydeco dance lessons, genealogy experts, traiteur garden tours, documentaries, and much more! Another highlight will be the presentation of the Richard J. Catalon Creole Heritage award to a distinguished advocate and supporter of the Créole culture. Acadiana Brew HaHa

Come on in for Acadiana Brew Haha, an event that is all about the history and culture of beer and brewing in Louisiana! We've got so many great beers coming from right here at home, including several new breweries that have just opened in the past few years. Acadiana Brew Haha is designed to give you a taste of what's brewing right here at home, and meet some of the people that make the magic happen. Acadiana Brew Haha includes our region's craft, micro, nano, and homebrewers, and you to see what's on tap in Louisiana! All ticket-holders will receive this year's official souvenir mug, to handle your tastings all day! And of course, you'll want to make your preferences known, so each guest will have a ticket to vote for the coveted People's Choice award. The other, Acadiana Brew Haha 2023! will be determined by a panel of *very* auspicious judges! Boat Parade & Bayou Fest

Save the date for one of the best days on the bayou all year ’round! Gather your friends, your canoe, your cooler, your fiddle, your best costumes, your dog, whatever, and get ready to join us for a day to celebrate the Bayou Vermilion! This is going to be a great time on the water, and we want you to come a be a part of it. The parade will set sail at 11:30 AM from the dock at Vermilionville, and wind all along the bayou to Southside Park. We'll have music all the way down the bayou from the New Natives Brass Band, and of course costume, shore party and boat decorating contests! At the park, we’ll have food and drinks, games, and music! Jumpin' Jax will have a giant Connect Four game, as well as a fun jump, plus cornhole championship, pétanque and more!! Ask for Ashley will be playing 3-6 PM. Want to paddle but have no boat? The BVD has got you covered. We’ve got canoes and kayaks available to help you get in the water and experience our own Bayou Vermilion. Registration and rentals available below! UPDATE: All BVD rental vessels have been reserved.
