Bayou Vermilion District & Vermilionville host the Bal du Dimanche (Sunday Dance) EVERY WEEK.  This live music series is held in Vermilionville’s Performance Center and rustic dancehall from 1-4 p.m.  Admission is $10 and includes a self-guided tour of the Vermilionville Living History museum. Come early and grab lunch at Vermilionville’s restaurant, La Cuisine de Maman.  The restaurant is open every Sunday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and features authentic Cajun and Creole cuisine. On Sundays, the restaurant features an all-you-can-eat Sunday buffet. Créole Culture Day (with Schedule)

The public can enjoy a FREE FESTIVAL at Vermilionville for the 20th annual Creole Culture Celebration on Sunday, June 12, 2022 from 10AM - 5PM.  We'll celebrate with live music, cooking demonstrations, juré performances, storytelling, kids’ crafts, art, museum, and photography exhibits, Zydeco dance lessons, genealogy experts, traiteur garden tours, documentaries, and much more! Every year, Vermilionville celebrates the cultures of Acadiana that contributed so much to our unique folklife. Come to Vermilionville June 12 for our Creole Culture Day event!  On this day we recognize and honor our region’s Creole heritage. So much of our food, traditions, and music comes to our region from the Creole culture, and on this day we demonstrate and celebrate its many contributions to our contemporary folklife. With our partners at C.R.E.O.L.E. Inc, and support from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, Lafayette Consolidated Government, the Bayou Vermilion District, and the Vermilionville Living History Museum Foundation, this year’s celebration of the Creole culture and history is an event not to be missed.  We’ll commemorate the fascinating Creole story in our festival area and spread through our historic village. Common Ground Residency

Vermilionville

The Coco Tribe of Canneci Tinne will be in residence at the Native American Common Ground at Vermilionville Saturday, July 30, 2022. This organization was formed by the descendants of the Coco Tribe that inhabited the Prairie Maronne and Bayou Tortue area of St. Martin Parish and Lafayette Parish, living on the border of the two parishes which was called Attakapas in the 1800s. They are a Tribe of Lipan Apache Indians called Canneci (Kansi/Kaneechee) which means (Tall Sticks/Poles in a row standing or Red Mud) Tinne means(People). Coco Tribe comes from the original name given to the Tribe in the 1800s by the Planter Elite, due to them calling the Chief at the time by the name of Coco, which in French is translated as Handsome Man. The Coco Tribe of Canneci Tinne, Inc. has persevered and is resilient in its culture, language, and traditions. They will be demonstrating various aspects of their culture during this daylong event.

Louisiana music hero Tommy McLain returns to his home state in celebration of his first new album in 40+ years 'I Ran Down Every Dream.' In a series of intimate duo shows with Grammy-nominated producer/protégé CC Adcock, McLain will bring the swamp pop sound he helped put on the map and "a voice that still sounds strong as ever" (MOJO) at 82 to New Orleans (September 7 and 8 at Hotel Peter and Paul), Lafayette (September 9 at Vermilionville) and Crowley (September 10 at the Grand Opera House of the South). Recently embarking on his first countrywide tour in decades and sharing stages with Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe (who both co-wrote with Tommy on 'I Ran Down Every Dream'), McLain fittingly comes back to where it all began as his new album becomes available across the globe.  Click here for tickets.

Les Mains Guidées — Dìa de los Muertos Doll Workshop

Les Mains Guidées returns, with a fabulous "VoodooHoodoo" Doll workshop from artist extraordinaire, Kate Ferry. Come make your own Dìa de los Muertos doll (La Calavera Catrina) and learn the story of these dolls, prominent in Mexican culture as part of a multi-day celebration of friends and family who have died. All materials and supplies will be furnished to fashion a colorful work of art for you and your family to enjoy. Workshop attendees age 14 and up!
