Créole Culture Day Celebration

The public can enjoy a FREE FESTIVAL at Vermilionville for the 22nd annual Créole Culture Celebration on Sunday June 9, 2024, 10 AM - 4 PM. Every year, Vermilionville celebrates the cultures of Acadiana that contributed so much to our unique folklife. Come back to Vermilionville in June for the return of our Créole Culture Day event!  On this day we recognize and honor our region’s Créole heritage. So much of our food, traditions, and music comes to our region from the Créole culture, and on this day we both demonstrate and celebrate its many contributions to our contemporary folklife. Acadiana Brew HaHa

Vermilionville

Come on in for Acadiana Brew Haha, an event that is all about the history and culture of beer and brewing in Louisiana! We've got so many great beers coming from right here at home, including several new breweries that have just opened in the past few years. Acadiana Brew Haha is designed to give you a taste of what's brewing right here at home and meet some of the people that make the magic happen -- even brews from our very own Vermilionville Brewhouse. We'll hold the official ribbon cutting for the Brewhouse at 12 noon during the festivities. Acadiana Brew Haha includes our region's craft, micro, nano, and homebrewers, and you to see what's on tap in Louisiana! This year, look for Bayou Teche Brewing, Gnarly Barley, Adopted Dog Brewery, and Agile Brewing as well as home brewers coming in from the Dead Yeast Society. Redstick Brewmasters and beyond! Acadian Culture Day 2024

Vermilionville

The community is invited to join the Bayou Vermilion District’s Vermilionville to celebrate our annual Acadian Culture Day on Sunday, August 11th from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.  Join us for a family-friendly day of live music, great food, art, cooking, storytelling, spinning and weaving, arts and crafts, and other demonstrations. Here are some of the highlights you can expect: Quilting & Spinning Dance Lessons The storytelling of Cajun music Basket weaving Coton Jaune documentary Boucherie: An Edible Spectacle documentary The Tintamarre Parade Cooking Demonstrations Local Artist Demonstrations The Acadian Cultural Preservation Award Live Cajun Music all day the art of Cayla Zeek of Mattea Studio Food and beverage available for purchase.  Admission is free.  For more information about Acadian Culture Day call (337) 233-4077.

Bayou Fest & Boat Parade

Save the date for one of the best days on the bayou all year ’round! Gather your friends, your canoe, your cooler, your fiddle, your best costumes, your dog, whatever, and get ready to join us for a day to celebrate the Bayou Vermilion! This is going to be a great time on the water, and we want you to come a be a part of it. The parade will set sail at 11:30 AM from the dock at Vermilionville, and wind all along the bayou to Southside Park. We'll have music all the way down the bayou, and of course costume, shore party and boat decorating contests! At the park, we’ll have food and drinks, games, and music! Want to paddle but have no boat? The BVD has got you covered. We’ve got canoes and kayaks available to help you get in the water and experience our own Bayou Vermilion. Each vessel you rent from us comes with two registrations for paddlers. We'll also have a shuttle in the morning so you can drop off your gear and vessel at Vermilionville, then park at Southside Park and ride back to the Vermilionville dock! FREE Native American Culture Day

NACD24 Native American Culture Day is slated for Saturday, November 16, 2024, 10 AM – 4 PM at Vermilionville. It’s a FREE festival with family-friendly events, demonstrations, cultural exhibits and much more. Tribal groups who will participate include: Louisiana Attakapas Eagle Tribe, Atakapa-Ishak Nation of Southwest Louisiana, the United Houma Nation, the Canneci Tinne Choctaw Tribe, the Avogel Tribe of Louisiana, the Jena Band of Choctaw and the Natchitoches Tribe of Louisiana. Throughout the day, there will be dancing and drumming, music demonstrations, cultural and craft displays, storytelling, tomahawk throwing, crafts for the family, and more. Old Time Winter Family Day

Vermilionville

December 14th will mark our Old Time Winter Family Day, with Vermilionville’s artisans on hand to demonstrate winter traditions of the Acadian, Creole and Native American cultures such as open-hearth cooking demonstrations and making candles, soap, natural decorations, and citrus pomanders. Children will enjoy writing letters to Papa Noël, and can even meet the French Santa Claus himself, who was actually a trapper that would deliver presents such as candy, money and small toys. Admission to this family event is just $5, for age 2 and up. Vermilionville’s restaurant, La Cuisine de Maman, will also be open for regular business hours that day, offering a tasty buffet of Cajun and Creole favorites. Vermilionville is closed to the public on Monday, but is open Tuesday - Sunday from 10 AM – 4 PM.
