Creole Culture Day Celebration

Vermilionville

The public can enjoy a FREE TWO-DAY FESTIVAL at Vermilionville for the 19th annual Creole Culture Celebration on Saturday, June 5 and Sunday, June 6 from 10AM-5PM.  Live music with Cedric Watson & Bijou Creole on Saturday and Corey Ledet on Sunday; cooking demonstrations; juré performances; storytelling; Creole language panel discussions; kids’ crafts; art, museum, and photography exhibits; Zydeco dance lessons; genealogy experts; traiteur garden tours; documentaries; The Knights of Peter Claver; and much more! Every year, Vermilionville celebrates the cultures of Acadiana that contributed so much to our unique folklife. A Celebration of French Language and Culture in Louisiana!

Come out to Vermilionville for a Celebration of French Language and Culture in Louisiana! On Saturday, September 4th, we'll be hosting music, speakers, panelists, community organizations, local beer crafters, French-style rum from Wildcat Brothers, and more!  We'll also have pentanque, great drinks, great conversations en français and the Vermilionville Jambalya Cookoff! ***** Venez à Vermilionville pour une célébration de la langue et de la culture françaises en Louisiane! French Festival: A Day En Français!

On Saturday, March 26 Vermilionville will host an all-day event that celebrates the French language and the vibrant cultures that speak it around the world.  Over the course of the day, guests will experience music in French, poetry and storytelling in French, games in French, French food and drinks, craft opportunities in French, French films, tours of the Vermilionville village in French, and more!  Admissions are discounted at $5 for adults, children 4 and under get in free. The event starts at 9am, so come on and start the day with coffee, fried bread, crêpes, and beignets En Français!  Vermilionville is partnering with organizations and vendors from the community to provide a truly French experience.  Pétanque Lafayette will be in attendance, and anyone of any skill level is invited to join in a game.  UL Lafayette Special Collections will also attend with examples of Francophone offerings from their holdings.  Nous Foundation, an independent platform for exchange between Louisiana and the French-speaking world will also be in attendance.  Vermilionville's Restaurant, La Cuisine de Maman will open at 11am, and French-speaking tables will receive a discount. Every year, Vermilionville celebrates the cultures of Acadiana that contributed so much to our unique folklife. Come to Vermilionville June 12 for our Creole Culture Day event!  On this day we recognize and honor our region’s Creole heritage. So much of our food, traditions, and music comes to our region from the Creole culture, and on this day we demonstrate and celebrate its many contributions to our contemporary folklife. With our partners at C.R.E.O.L.E. Créole Culture Day (With Schedule & Map)

The public can enjoy a FREE FESTIVAL at Vermilionville for the 21st annual Créole Culture Celebration on Sunday, June 11, 2023 from 10AM - 5PM.  We'll celebrate with live music from Herb Green Drummers, Cedryl Ballou & the Zydeco Trendsetters, and Donna Angelle and the Zydeco Posse. There will be cooking demonstrations by Sweet Envie, our own Ms. Deloris and a wine-making demonstration with Mr. Paul Cluse. Louisiana Poet Laureate Johnathan Mayers will share his writing, and Joe Hall will speak about the history, changes and traditions of Creole & Zydeco music. Also, enjoy juré performances, storytelling, kids’ crafts, art from Erica Melancon Fox, museum, and photography exhibits, Zydeco dance lessons, genealogy experts, traiteur garden tours, documentaries, and much more! Another highlight will be the presentation of the Richard J. Catalon Creole Heritage award to a distinguished advocate and supporter of the Créole culture. The community is invited to join the Bayou Vermilion District’s Vermilionville to celebrate our annual Acadian Culture Day on Sunday, August 13th from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.  Join us for a family-friendly day of live music, great food, art, cooking, storytelling, spinning and weaving, arts and crafts, open hearth cooking and other demonstrations. FREE Native American Culture Day

Vermilionville

Native American Culture Day is slated for Saturday, November 18, 2023, 10 AM – 4 PM at Vermilionville. It’s a FREE festival with family-friendly events, demonstrations, cultural exhibits and much more. Tribal groups who will participate include: Louisiana Attakapas Eagle Tribe, Avogel Tribe of Louisiana, Atakapas-Ishak Nation of Southwest Louisiana, Jean Charles Choctaw Nation, Natchitoches Tribe of Louisiana, The Houma Nation and the Coco Tribe of Canneci Tinne. The day will begin at 10 AM. Opening ceremony at 10:30 AM by the Atakapa-Ishak Nation of Southwest Louisiana. Throughout the day, there will be dancing and drumming, music demonstrations, cultural and craft displays, storytelling, tomahawk throwing, crafts for the family, and more. Old Time Winter Traditions

The community is invited to experience the simple warmth and beauty of Christmas past as Vermilionville’s historic village brings to life the holiday traditions of yesteryear. Visitors young and old are invited to sing Christmas carols, listen to storytelling, decorate cookies, make bousillage ornaments, view the decorations in the village, vote for their People's Choice in the Gingerbread House Contest thru December 16th and much more. Vermilionville’s artisans will be on hand to demonstrate winter traditions of the Acadian, Creole and Native American cultures such as open hearth cooking demonstrations and making candles, soap, natural decorations, and citrus pomanders. Children will enjoy writing letters to Papa Noël, and can even meet the French Santa Claus himself, who was actually a trapper that would deliver presents such as candy, money and small toys. We will also have animal feed for sale, so that guests can enjoy feeding our Provence donkey and three Gulf Coast Native sheep. Vermilionville’s restaurant, La Cuisine de Maman, will also be open for regular business hours that day, offering Cajun and Creole favorite plate lunches as well as a full menu of other items. December 16th will mark our Old Time Winter Family Day, with Vermilionville’s artisans on hand to demonstrate winter traditions of the Acadian, Creole and Native American cultures such as open-hearth cooking demonstrations and making candles, soap, natural decorations, and citrus pomanders. Children will enjoy writing letters to Papa Noël, and can even meet the French Santa Claus himself, who was actually a trapper that would deliver presents such as candy, money and small toys. Vermilionville’s restaurant, La Cuisine de Maman, will also be open for regular business hours that day, offering a full menu of Cajun and Creole favorites. Vermilionville is closed to the public on Monday, but is open Tuesday - Sunday from 10 AM – 4 PM.
