Bal du Dimanche: Lafayette Rhythm Devils

Bayou Vermilion District & Vermilionville host the Bal du Dimanche (Sunday Dance) EVERY WEEK.  This live music series is held in Vermilionville’s Performance Center and rustic dancehall from 1-4 p.m.  Admission is $10 and includes a self-guided tour of the Vermilionville Living History museum. Come early and grab lunch at Vermilionville’s restaurant, La Cuisine de Maman.  The restaurant is open every Sunday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and features authentic Cajun and Creole cuisine. On Sundays, the restaurant features an all-you-can-eat Sunday buffet. French Festival: A Day En Français!

On Saturday, March 26 Vermilionville will host an all-day event that celebrates the French language and the vibrant cultures that speak it around the world.  Over the course of the day, guests will experience music in French, poetry and storytelling in French, games in French, French food and drinks, craft opportunities in French, French films, tours of the Vermilionville village in French, and more!  Admissions are discounted at $5 for adults, children 4 and under get in free. The event starts at 9am, so come on and start the day with coffee, fried bread, crêpes, and beignets En Français!  Vermilionville is partnering with organizations and vendors from the community to provide a truly French experience.  Pétanque Lafayette will be in attendance, and anyone of any skill level is invited to join in a game.  UL Lafayette Special Collections will also attend with examples of Francophone offerings from their holdings.  Nous Foundation, an independent platform for exchange between Louisiana and the French-speaking world will also be in attendance.  Vermilionville's Restaurant, La Cuisine de Maman will open at 11am, and French-speaking tables will receive a discount. Acadian Culture Day 2023

The community is invited to join the Bayou Vermilion District’s Vermilionville to celebrate our annual Acadian Culture Day on Sunday, August 13th from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.  Join us for a family-friendly day of live music, great food, art, cooking, storytelling, spinning and weaving, arts and crafts, open hearth cooking and other demonstrations. Boo Bayou Family Friendly Halloween Event

Boo Bayou is back!  Join us at Vermilionville for a fun fall festival for the family! There will be plenty to keep your squad busy including old-time games, face painting, and more! We`ll have a coloring station and trick-or-treating throughout our historic village. We'll also be showing some great kid-friendly spooooky films in our Performance Center, where you can pick up a fresh bag of popcorn. In our cooking school, kids can grab bags to decorate their own Halloween treats! In the restaurant, we`ve got a spook-tacular menu lined up to match the spirit of the day including Spooky Spaghetti and Meatballs, Creepy Chicken Tenders, and more! And of course, kids and adults alike are welcome to transform themselves into whomever they would like to be for the event. Make memories with your family and enjoy great photo opportunities at our Fall Photo Station (costumes are encouraged, not mandatory...but there might be an extra piece of candy in it for you!) FREE Native American Culture Day

Vermilionville

Native American Culture Day is slated for Saturday, November 18, 2023, 10 AM – 4 PM at Vermilionville. It’s a FREE festival with family-friendly events, demonstrations, cultural exhibits and much more. Tribal groups who will participate include: Louisiana Attakapas Eagle Tribe, Avogel Tribe of Louisiana, Atakapas-Ishak Nation of Southwest Louisiana, Jean Charles Choctaw Nation, Natchitoches Tribe of Louisiana, The Houma Nation and the Coco Tribe of Canneci Tinne. The day will begin at 10 AM. Opening ceremony at 10:30 AM by the Atakapa-Ishak Nation of Southwest Louisiana. Throughout the day, there will be dancing and drumming, music demonstrations, cultural and craft displays, storytelling, tomahawk throwing, crafts for the family, and more. Courir de Mardi Gras

Vermilionville

Come out to Vermilionville to experience a traditional Mardi Gras run Sunday, February 4, 2024. The whole family can participate in this interactive event where the Basile Mardi Gras Association shares in the medieval tradition of the Courir de Mardi Gras. Disguised revelers, led by Le Capitaine and singing La Chanson de Mardi Gras will make their way through the historic village begging for the ingredients to make a gumbo. The event will begin at 10 a.m. with a screening of Pat Mire's iconic Mardi Gras documentary, "Dance for a Chicken," which reveals the secrets and history of the rural Mardi Gras run or Courir. At 11 AM, musician Kevin Rees will demonstrate the use of the "Chanson de Mardi Gras," with the attendees. At 11:30 AM, the Basile Association will begin run through the historic village and will end with the famous chicken chase for children. After the "run", grab a delicious lunch at Vermilionville's restaurant, then join us in the dancehall for live music from the Pine Leaf Boys, 1-4 PM.
