Bayou Vermilion District & Vermilionville host the Bal du Dimanche (Sunday Dance) EVERY WEEK.  This live music series is held in Vermilionville’s Performance Center and rustic dancehall from 1-4 p.m.  Admission is $10 and includes a self-guided tour of the Vermilionville Living History museum. Come early and grab lunch at Vermilionville’s restaurant, La Cuisine de Maman.  The restaurant is open every Sunday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and features authentic Cajun and Creole cuisine. On Sundays, the restaurant features an all-you-can-eat Sunday buffet. Boo Bayou Family Friendly Halloween Event

Boo Bayou is back!  Join us at Vermilionville for a fun fall festival for the family! There will be plenty to keep your squad busy including old-time games, face painting, and more! We`ll have a coloring station and trick-or-treating throughout our historic village. We'll also be showing some great kid-friendly spooooky films in our Performance Center, where you can pick up a fresh bag of popcorn. In our cooking school, kids can grab bags to decorate their own Halloween treats! In the restaurant, we`ve got a spook-tacular menu lined up to match the spirit of the day including Spooky Spaghetti and Meatballs, Creepy Chicken Tenders, and more! And of course, kids and adults alike are welcome to transform themselves into whomever they would like to be for the event. Make memories with your family and enjoy great photo opportunities at our Fall Photo Station (costumes are encouraged, not mandatory...but there might be an extra piece of candy in it for you!) FREE Native American Culture Day

Vermilionville

Native American Culture Day is slated for Saturday, November 18, 2023, 10 AM – 4 PM at Vermilionville. It’s a FREE festival with family-friendly events, demonstrations, cultural exhibits and much more. Tribal groups who will participate include: Louisiana Attakapas Eagle Tribe, Avogel Tribe of Louisiana, Atakapas-Ishak Nation of Southwest Louisiana, Jean Charles Choctaw Nation, Natchitoches Tribe of Louisiana, The Houma Nation and the Coco Tribe of Canneci Tinne. The day will begin at 10 AM. Opening ceremony at 10:30 AM by the Atakapa-Ishak Nation of Southwest Louisiana. Throughout the day, there will be dancing and drumming, music demonstrations, cultural and craft displays, storytelling, tomahawk throwing, crafts for the family, and more. Old Time Winter Traditions

The community is invited to experience the simple warmth and beauty of Christmas past as Vermilionville’s historic village brings to life the holiday traditions of yesteryear. Visitors young and old are invited to sing Christmas carols, listen to storytelling, decorate cookies, make bousillage ornaments, view the decorations in the village, vote for their People's Choice in the Gingerbread House Contest thru December 16th and much more. Vermilionville’s artisans will be on hand to demonstrate winter traditions of the Acadian, Creole and Native American cultures such as open hearth cooking demonstrations and making candles, soap, natural decorations, and citrus pomanders. Children will enjoy writing letters to Papa Noël, and can even meet the French Santa Claus himself, who was actually a trapper that would deliver presents such as candy, money and small toys. We will also have animal feed for sale, so that guests can enjoy feeding our Provence donkey and three Gulf Coast Native sheep. Vermilionville’s restaurant, La Cuisine de Maman, will also be open for regular business hours that day, offering Cajun and Creole favorite plate lunches as well as a full menu of other items. Children will enjoy writing letters to Papa Noël, and can even meet the French Santa Claus himself, who was actually a trapper that would deliver presents such as candy, money and small toys. Vermilionville’s restaurant, La Cuisine de Maman, will also be open for regular business hours that day, offering a full menu of Cajun and Creole favorites. Vermilionville is closed to the public on Monday, but is open Tuesday - Sunday from 10 AM – 4 PM.

Courir de Mardi Gras

Vermilionville

Come out to Vermilionville to experience a traditional Mardi Gras run Sunday, February 4, 2024. The whole family can participate in this interactive event where the Basile Mardi Gras Association shares in the medieval tradition of the Courir de Mardi Gras. Disguised revelers, led by Le Capitaine and singing La Chanson de Mardi Gras will make their way through the historic village begging for the ingredients to make a gumbo. The event will begin at 10 a.m. with a screening of Pat Mire's iconic Mardi Gras documentary, "Dance for a Chicken," which reveals the secrets and history of the rural Mardi Gras run or Courir. At 11 AM, musician Kevin Rees will demonstrate the use of the "Chanson de Mardi Gras," with the attendees. At 11:30 AM, the Basile Association will begin run through the historic village and will end with the famous chicken chase for children. After the "run", grab a delicious lunch at Vermilionville's restaurant, then join us in the dancehall for live music from the Pine Leaf Boys, 1-4 PM.
