• Vermilionville’s Painting Class Series: Painting with History!

    Vermilionville invites you to come paint with us!  Anyone can participate in our new painting class series on Saturday, October 16th from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.  Registration is required and includes all art supplies as well as mimosas and strawberry infused water.  You also have the option to add a delicious lunch with bayou chicken caesar wrap, pasta salad, cookie, and lemonade. This class is Halloween-themed. You will learn to paint Vermilionville's oldest historic house, Maison Broussard.  Historical information and fun facts about the Maison Broussard and Halloween will be shared with the group as we paint.   • Healing Traditions Lecture Series

    The Healing Traditions Lecture Series is scheduled to resume on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Vermilionville. Healing Traditions in Acadiana is a free, quarterly lecture series brought to you by the Lafayette Parish Master Gardeners that serves as an introduction to the general public about the healing traditions of the Cajun and Creole peoples of the area as well as the need to preserve medicinal plants, and the knowledge of their uses. This series is an outgrowth of the Master Gardeners' work at the Healer's or Traiteur's Garden located here at Vermilionville. This quarter's lecture is, "Medicine in the Leaves: The History of Vermilionville's unique Healer's Garden," At this lecture Master Gardener and folk healer, Beverly Fuselier will cover the founding of the Healer's Garden which was put in place by local Master Gardeners in 2011. Beverly will speak on its native Louisiana plants, discussing their medicinal value, who used them, how they administered the medicine procured from the leaves, stems, roots, bark, and much associated entertaining folklore.
