Bayou Vermilion District and Vermilionville hosts a monthly workshop series that allows you to learn crafts from our master artisans. At the beginning of each month we highlight a different craft from the old Acadian, Creole, and Native American ways of life.  Even if you'd simply like to come and watch the class as an observer only, not taking a direct part in the workshop, we've got a spot for you! During April's Les Main’s Guidées, as part of the Bayou Vermilion District's Earth MONTH celebration, we'll have one of Vermilionville's favorite artists come and teach how to make re-usable beeswax wraps, which are a great resource in reducing single-use plastic waste! Mimi R. DelGizzi recently moved to Lafayette, LA to be closer to family and explore her Acadian heritage. Previously, she lived in Boston, Massachusetts where she received dual masters degrees in Food Policy as well as Public Health with a focus on community nutrition.  Mimi teaches courses on healthy eating, fermentation, beer and wine brewing, yogurt- and cheese-making, and has led workshops in wellness, meditation, and mindfulness. Creole Culture Day Celebration

Les Mains Guidées: Native American Finger Weaving

Bayou Vermilion District and Vermilionville hosts a monthly workshop series that allows you to learn crafts from our master artisans. At the beginning of each month we highlight a different craft from the old Acadian, Creole, and Native American ways of life.  Topics range from woodworking, to textiles, to foodways, and many things in between. Even if you’d simply like to come and watch the class as an observer only, not taking a direct part in the workshop, we’ve got a spot for you!  Reserve your spot now. During June’s workshop, you will learn and work alongside Neka Mire of the Chitimacha tribe. Neka has worked at Vermilionville as a tour guide and interpreted the Native American way of life for our visitors, sharing both fingerweaving and Chitimacha basketry. During the class, she will talk about the history and tradition of finger-weaving as she guides you in creating your own works of art. Spots are reserved on a first come, first serve basis. Vermilionville’s Painting Class Series

Vermilionville invites you to come paint with us!  Anyone can participate in our new painting class series starting on Saturday, June 26 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.  Registration is required and includes all art supplies as well as mimosas and strawberry infused water.  You also have the option to add a delicious lunch with bayou chicken caesar wrap, pasta salad, cookie, and lemonade. During this class you will learn to paint a landscape scene of an alligator resting on the bank of the petit bayou.  Fun facts about alligators and our Petit Bayou will be shared with the groups as we paint to educate about the importance alligators play in their ecosystem.  Spots are limited, so make your reservation today!
