Healing Traditions of Acadiana returns to Vermilionville March 11 at 11 AM. The Lafayette Parish Master Gardeners Association presents Modern Day Healing with Traditional Herbs. Learn about medicinal plants and healing from author and clinical herbalist Corinne Martin. This presentation will introduce some of the medicinal plants used by Traiteurs and other Louisiana healers. Join us for this fascinating and informative free lecture. Corinne Martin has written three books and numerous articles on medicinal plants and healing. She is a certified clinical herbalist, an amateur naturalist, and ordained Interfaith Minister and a certified spiritual director. Corinne recently retired from teaching holistic and integrative health studies at the University of Southern Maine School of Nursing and resides in both Louisiana and Maine.

Healing Traditions of Acadiana — The Cajun Healer: Revival and Renewal with Colby Hébert

Join us Saturday, June 17 at 11 AM for this edition of Healing Traditions in Acadiana, with Colby Hébert. This presentation is free to the public. New Iberia native and generational Traiteur since the age of 11, Colby Hébert has always had a deep pride and passion for his Louisiana roots. Since 2016, he has used his custom hat business “The Cajun Hatter” as an avenue to express and preserve elements of Cajun and Creole culture. Currently, he has shifted his preservation efforts toward the healing tradition of which he has long been a part. In his talk “The Cajun Healer: Revival and Renewal” Hébert will share his perspectives on how we can honor tradition while embracing the changes necessary to sustain it.

Monday, April 29 at 6:30 PM in the Vermilionville Performance Center, we'll be showing Rodents of Unusual Size, a feature-length documentary film, which deals with the love-hate relationship between South Louisiana and the nutria, the titular 'rodent of unusual size'.
