  • Les Mains Guidées: Wax Flower Couronne

    As part of its mission for the preservation of traditional trades and folkcrafts, Vermilionville continues to host monthly workshops allowing our community to learn a craft from the Acadian, Creole and Native American traditions. Topics range from woodcarving to foodways (and many things in between). For the October Les Mains Guidées, Ivy Broussard - one of our highly experienced craft artisans - will share the methods used for designing and building a wax flower couronne, traditionally used for the decorating of graves for All Saints Day. Guests will learn to form the delicate flowers from paper and wire, how to dip them to preserve the shape, and how to bring these together to form the traditional wreath. During this workshop, Ivy will also share some of the other elements of mourning and All Saints traditions in history. You can register below and purchase tickets for $30, all needed materials and supplies included!

    Come take a tour on the Cocodrie 2, Bayou Vermilion District’s flat bottom boat. Learn all about the history, geology and environment of the Vermilion River. See the sights, flora and fauna (who knows, and a gator or two!) Spend an hour in the morning breezes with our boat captain, Mike Fowler, and Ivy Broussard as your guides. ALSO, if you're looking for something else cool to do after your boat tour, you can buy tickets for a self-guided tour of our historic village here, as well. Life jackets must be worn and will be provided for adults and children over 30 lbs. Siblings ages 3-4 are free, and welcome, but MUST be at least 18 pounds with an approved USCG life jacket to sit. We have a few life jackets for children above 30 pounds. All children must counted in the ticket numbers (limited space on our boat...) If they do not qualify for the 30-pound limit, you must bring a USCG-approved life jacket for them. . Ticket availability: 13 PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee a spot for walk-ups the day of the tour. Please register and buy your tickets online prior to 10/11.

    Native American Culture Day is slated for Saturday, November 22, 2025, 10 AM – 4 PM at Vermilionville. It’s a FREE festival with family-friendly events, demonstrations, cultural exhibits and much more. Throughout the day, there will be dancing and drumming, music demonstrations, cultural and craft displays, storytelling, tomahawk throwing, crafts for the family, and more.   • New Year’s Eve Dance with Geno Delafose and French Rockin’ Boogie

    ONLINE TICKETS ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE -- THEY WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR. Ring in the New Year with Geno Delafose and the French Rockin’ Boogie!  Don’t miss the biggest party of the year at Vermilionville with delicious food, drinks, and dancing with Geno Delafose, New Year’s Eve at Vermilionville. Lobby opens at 8 p.m.  Doors open at 8:30 p.m. with music from 9:30 PM - 12:30 AM.  Food and beverage are available for purchase. Tickets are $45 each, available below. All funds from this annual event will go towards programs that promote and preserve local cultures in Acadiana. NOTE: No outside food or beverages are allowed in the Performance Center. This includes water bottles, so be aware. Also, no large bags or backpacks, unless subjected to search by security. No smoking within 25 feet of the Performance Center. Smoking is allowed in designated areas, with clearly marked receptacles for cigarette butts.

  • Courir de Mardi Gras

    Come out to Vermilionville to experience a traditional Mardi Gras run Sunday, February 8, 2026! The whole family can participate in this interactive event where the Basile Mardi Gras Association shares in the medieval tradition of the Courir de Mardi Gras. Disguised revelers, led by Le Capitaine and singing La Chanson de Mardi Gras will make their way through the historic village begging for the ingredients to make a gumbo. The event will begin at 10 AM. At 10:15, learn all about the history and origins of the Courir from Dr. Barry Jean Ancelet. At 11 AM, musician Kevin Rees will demonstrate the use of the "Chanson de Mardi Gras," with the attendees. At 11:30 AM, the Basile Association will begin run through the historic village and will end with the famous chicken chase for children. After the "run", grab a delicious lunch at Vermilionville's restaurant, then join us in the dancehall for live music from the Pine Leaf Boys, 1-4 PM.
