The community is invited to join the Bayou Vermilion District’s Vermilionville to celebrate our annual Acadian Culture Day on Sunday, August 11th from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Join us for a family-friendly day of live music, great food, art, cooking, storytelling, spinning and weaving, arts and crafts, and other demonstrations. Here are some of the highlights you can expect: Quilting & Spinning Dance Lessons The storytelling of Cajun music Basket weaving Coton Jaune documentary Boucherie: An Edible Spectacle documentary The Tintamarre Parade Cooking Demonstrations Local Artist Demonstrations The Acadian Cultural Preservation Award Live Cajun Music all day the art of Cayla Zeek of Mattea Studio Food and beverage available for purchase. Our Les Vues FREE Film Series continues in August with Acadian Brown Cotton, a documentary detailing all about "The fabric of Acadiana", Acadian Brown Cotton.
Save the date for one of the best days on the bayou all year ’round! Gather your friends, your canoe, your cooler, your fiddle, your best costumes, your dog, whatever, and get ready to join us for a day to celebrate the Bayou Vermilion! This is going to be a great time on the water, and we want you to come a be a part of it. The parade will set sail at 11:30 AM from the dock at Vermilionville, and wind all along the bayou to Southside Park. We'll have music all the way down the bayou, and of course costume, shore party and boat decorating contests! At the park, we’ll have food and drinks, games, and music! Want to paddle but have no boat? The BVD has got you covered. We’ve got canoes and kayaks available to help you get in the water and experience our own Bayou Vermilion. Each vessel you rent from us comes with two registrations for paddlers. We'll also have a shuttle in the morning so you can drop off your gear and vessel at Vermilionville, then park at Southside Park and ride back to the Vermilionville dock! This live music series is held in Vermilionville’s Performance Center and rustic dancehall from 1-4 p.m. Admission is $10 and includes a self-guided tour of the Vermilionville Living History Museum.Come early and grab lunch at Vermilionville’s restaurant, La Cuisine de Maman. The restaurant is open every Sunday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and features authentic Cajun and Creole cuisine. Boo Bayou is back! Join us at Vermilionville for a fun fall festival for the family! There will be plenty to keep your squad busy including old-time games, magic, and more! We`ll have a coloring station and trick-or-treating throughout our historic village. We'll also be showing some great kid-friendly spooooky films in our Performance Center, where you can pick up a fresh bag of popcorn. In our cooking school, kids can grab bags to decorate their own Halloween treats! In the restaurant, we`ve got a spook-tacular menu lined up to match the spirit of the day. And of course, kids and adults alike are welcome to transform themselves into whomever they would like to be for the event. Make memories with your family and enjoy great photo opportunities at our Fall Photo Station (costumes are encouraged, not mandatory...but there might be an extra piece of candy in it for you!)
