Bayou Vermilion District & Vermilionville host the Bal du Dimanche (Sunday Dance) EVERY WEEK.  This live music series is held in Vermilionville’s Performance Center and rustic dancehall from 1-4 p.m.  Admission is $10 and includes a self-guided tour of the Vermilionville Living History museum. Come early and grab lunch at Vermilionville’s restaurant, La Cuisine de Maman.  The restaurant is open every Sunday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and features authentic Cajun and Creole cuisine. On Sundays, the restaurant features an all-you-can-eat Sunday buffet. Sunday, April 16 featured band: Willie Tee & Cypress. Les Vues June: “Accordions Rising”

Les Vues, Vermilionville's free film series is back and better than ever. June's selection is "Accordions Rising", a documentary feature film about the resurgence of interest in accordion music over the last 30-40 years. Though many continue to see the accordion as the stodgy instrument of a bygone era – and accordion jokes abound — it is time to set the record straight! Join us for an educational and fun evening, 6:30 PM, Monday June 26. FREE to the public. Discussion after the film curated by Kevin Rees, Vermilionville historian and musician.

The community is invited to join the Bayou Vermilion District’s Vermilionville to celebrate our annual Acadian Culture Day on Sunday, August 13th from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.  Join us for a family-friendly day of live music, great food, art, cooking, storytelling, spinning and weaving, arts and crafts, open hearth cooking and other demonstrations. FREE Native American Culture Day

Vermilionville

Native American Culture Day is slated for Saturday, November 18, 2023, 10 AM – 4 PM at Vermilionville. It’s a FREE festival with family-friendly events, demonstrations, cultural exhibits and much more. Tribal groups who will participate include: Louisiana Attakapas Eagle Tribe, Avogel Tribe of Louisiana, Atakapas-Ishak Nation of Southwest Louisiana, Jean Charles Choctaw Nation, Natchitoches Tribe of Louisiana, The Houma Nation and the Coco Tribe of Canneci Tinne. The day will begin at 10 AM. Opening ceremony at 10:30 AM by the Atakapa-Ishak Nation of Southwest Louisiana. Throughout the day, there will be dancing and drumming, music demonstrations, cultural and craft displays, storytelling, tomahawk throwing, crafts for the family, and more. New Year’s Eve Dance with Geno Delafose and French Rockin’ Boogie

Ring in the New Year with Geno Delafose and the French Rockin’ Boogie!  Don’t miss the biggest party of the year at Vermilionville with delicious food, drinks, and dancing with Geno Delafose, New Year’s Eve at Vermilionville. Lobby opens at 8 p.m.  Doors open at 8:30 p.m. with music from 9:30 PM - 12:30 AM.  Food and beverage are available for purchase.  Admission is $40 per person and includes a complimentary glass of champagne at midnight. All funds from this annual event will go towards programs that promote and preserve local cultures in Acadiana. NOTE: No outside food or beverages are allowed in the Performance Center. This includes water bottles, so be aware. Also, no large bags or backpacks, unless subjected to search by security. No smoking within 25 feet of the Performance Center. Smoking is allowed in designated areas, with clearly marked receptacles for cigarette butts.

Courir de Mardi Gras

Vermilionville

Come out to Vermilionville to experience a traditional Mardi Gras run Sunday, February 4, 2024. The whole family can participate in this interactive event where the Basile Mardi Gras Association shares in the medieval tradition of the Courir de Mardi Gras. Disguised revelers, led by Le Capitaine and singing La Chanson de Mardi Gras will make their way through the historic village begging for the ingredients to make a gumbo. The event will begin at 10 a.m. with a screening of Pat Mire's iconic Mardi Gras documentary, "Dance for a Chicken," which reveals the secrets and history of the rural Mardi Gras run or Courir. At 11 AM, musician Kevin Rees will demonstrate the use of the "Chanson de Mardi Gras," with the attendees. At 11:30 AM, the Basile Association will begin run through the historic village and will end with the famous chicken chase for children. After the "run", grab a delicious lunch at Vermilionville's restaurant, then join us in the dancehall for live music from the Pine Leaf Boys, 1-4 PM.
