  • Bal du Dimanche: Leroy Thomas and the Zydeco Roadrunners

    Bayou Vermilion District & Vermilionville host the Bal du Dimanche (Sunday Dance) EVERY WEEK.  This live music series is held in Vermilionville’s Performance Center and rustic dancehall from 1-4 p.m.  Admission is $10 and includes a self-guided tour of the Vermilionville Living History museum. Come early and grab lunch at Vermilionville’s restaurant, La Cuisine de Maman.  The restaurant is open every Sunday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and features authentic Cajun and Creole cuisine. On Sundays, the restaurant features an all-you-can-eat Sunday buffet.     Les Vues, Vermilionville's FREE film series looks at death, Louisiana style! Monday, October 30 at 6:30 PM, we'll show two short films on death and mortuary practices in Louisiana, Little Houses and Grave Houses. It all starts at 6:30 PM. Come enjoy this free showing at Vermilionville.

  • FREE Native American Culture Day

    Native American Culture Day is slated for Saturday, November 18, 2023, 10 AM – 4 PM at Vermilionville. It’s a FREE festival with family-friendly events, demonstrations, cultural exhibits and much more. Tribal groups who will participate include: Louisiana Attakapas Eagle Tribe, Avogel Tribe of Louisiana, Atakapas-Ishak Nation of Southwest Louisiana, Jean Charles Choctaw Nation, Natchitoches Tribe of Louisiana, The Houma Nation and the Coco Tribe of Canneci Tinne. The day will begin at 10 AM. Opening ceremony at 10:30 AM by the Atakapa-Ishak Nation of Southwest Louisiana. Throughout the day, there will be dancing and drumming, music demonstrations, cultural and craft displays, storytelling, tomahawk throwing, crafts for the family, and more.   • Old Time Winter Traditions

    The community is invited to experience the simple warmth and beauty of Christmas past as Vermilionville’s historic village brings to life the holiday traditions of yesteryear. Visitors young and old are invited to sing Christmas carols, listen to storytelling, decorate cookies, make bousillage ornaments, view the decorations in the village, vote for their People's Choice in the Gingerbread House Contest thru December 16th and much more. Vermilionville’s artisans will be on hand to demonstrate winter traditions of the Acadian, Creole and Native American cultures such as open hearth cooking demonstrations and making candles, soap, natural decorations, and citrus pomanders. Children will enjoy writing letters to Papa Noël, and can even meet the French Santa Claus himself, who was actually a trapper that would deliver presents such as candy, money and small toys. We will also have animal feed for sale, so that guests can enjoy feeding our Provence donkey and three Gulf Coast Native sheep.   • New Year’s Eve Dance with Geno Delafose and French Rockin’ Boogie

    Ring in the New Year with Geno Delafose and the French Rockin’ Boogie!  Don’t miss the biggest party of the year at Vermilionville with delicious food, drinks, and dancing with Geno Delafose, New Year’s Eve at Vermilionville. Lobby opens at 8 p.m.  Doors open at 8:30 p.m. with music from 9:30 PM - 12:30 AM.  Food and beverage are available for purchase.  Admission is $40 per person and includes a complimentary glass of champagne at midnight. All funds from this annual event will go towards programs that promote and preserve local cultures in Acadiana. NOTE: No outside food or beverages are allowed in the Performance Center. This includes water bottles, so be aware. Also, no large bags or backpacks, unless subjected to search by security. No smoking within 25 feet of the Performance Center. Smoking is allowed in designated areas, with clearly marked receptacles for cigarette butts.

  • Courir de Mardi Gras

    Come out to Vermilionville to experience a traditional Mardi Gras run Sunday, February 4, 2024. The whole family can participate in this interactive event where the Basile Mardi Gras Association shares in the medieval tradition of the Courir de Mardi Gras. Disguised revelers, led by Le Capitaine and singing La Chanson de Mardi Gras will make their way through the historic village begging for the ingredients to make a gumbo. The event will begin at 10 a.m. with a screening of Pat Mire's iconic Mardi Gras documentary, "Dance for a Chicken," which reveals the secrets and history of the rural Mardi Gras run or Courir. At 11 AM, musician Kevin Rees will demonstrate the use of the "Chanson de Mardi Gras," with the attendees. At 11:30 AM, the Basile Association will begin run through the historic village and will end with the famous chicken chase for children. After the "run", grab a delicious lunch at Vermilionville's restaurant, then join us in the dancehall for live music from the Pine Leaf Boys, 1-4 PM.   • Créole Culture Day Celebration

    The public can enjoy a FREE FESTIVAL at Vermilionville for the 22nd annual Créole Culture Celebration on Sunday June 9, 2024, 10 AM - 4 PM. Every year, Vermilionville celebrates the cultures of Acadiana that contributed so much to our unique folklife. Come back to Vermilionville in June for the return of our Créole Culture Day event!  On this day we recognize and honor our region’s Créole heritage. So much of our food, traditions, and music comes to our region from the Créole culture, and on this day we both demonstrate and celebrate its many contributions to our contemporary folklife.
