FISHING
Whether you are fishing by boat or on land the Bayou Vermilion District has plenty of spots to launch your boat or to set up your tackle and cast away. Currently, there are no fish consumption advisories for the Vermilion River. Current status on fish consumption and swimming advisories can be found on the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality’s (LDEQ) interactive map webpage:
BEAVER PARK
Beaver Park is operated and maintained through a partnership between the Beaver Club of Lafayette, City of Lafayette and the Bayou Vermilion District. This public park is located right off of the Evangeline Thwy and is complete with a boat launch, pavilion, retention pond for fishing, benches for relaxing and is part of the Attakapas Ishak Trail. There are also public bathrooms and parking.
VERMILIONVILLE
The Bayou Vermilion District’s Vermilionville has a number of areas to fish from whether in the Bayou or our retention ponds. If river fishing is more your style, Vermilionville has a dock located right at the river just outside the historic park. We also have a retention pond that has numerous types of fish in it complete with benches surrounding the pond.
ROTARY POINT
Rotary Point is operated and maintained through a partnership between the Oil Center Rotary Club and the Bayou Vermilion District. The public park is located off of West Bayou Pkwy and is complete with a boat launch, fishing pier, pavilion as well as benches throughout to relax.
SOUTHSIDE PARK
Southside Park is operated and maintained solely by the Bayou Vermilion District. The park is located off of E Broussard Rd and is one of the larger parks operated by the Bayou Vermilion District. In the park you will find plenty of green area for sports, playing or just relaxing. There is also a pavilion overlooking the Bayou Vermilion as well as boardwalk for fishing or just enjoying the view. The newest addition to the park is a canoe/kayak launch making it easier for paddlers to put in and get out of the water.
