  • Vermilionville Volunteer Waiver

    By signing this volunteer waiver, I agree to the following:
    1. I release, waive, discharge, and covenant on behalf of myself not to sue Vermilionville, their elected and appointed officials, agents, volunteers, and employees from all liability to me for any loss or damage, and any claim or demands on account of personal or property injury, whether caused by employees’ negligence or otherwise, while I participate in Vermilionville volunteer programs.
    2. I understand that Vermilionville makes no representations or warranties as to the safety of volunteering and is not an insurer of my safety and that I must take full responsibility for my own safety and medical expenses associated with any injury or sickness as a result of performing voluntary work. Vermilionville is under no obligation to provide workers compensation benefits or any other reimbursements for medical care to volunteers.
    3. I further agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Vermilionville and its officers, employees and agents, from and against any and all claims, suits, actions, liability judgment and expenses that may arise by reason of services I provide as a volunteer or that are connected in any way therewith. I will pay all costs incident to any claim, including, without limitation, attorneys’ fees.
    4. I expressly agree that the foregoing release, waiver, and indemnity agreement is intended to be as broad and inclusive as is permitted by the law of the State of Louisiana and that if any portion is held invalid, it is agreed that the balance shall, notwithstanding, continue in full legal force and effect.
    5. I grant permission for Vermilionville to use my image, filmed or photographed during volunteer activities, to promote its services and programs.
    6. In case of serious injury, I give my permission for Vermilionville personnel to seek any medical treatment should it become necessary.
    I have read and voluntarily sign this release, waiver of liability, and indemnity agreement, and further agree that no oral representations, statements, or inducement apart from the foregoing written agreement have been made.
  • Court Ordered Community Service Volunteer Policy and Procedure

    Approval Process

    The Bayou Vermilion District’s Vermilionville endeavors to provide a safe and healthy work environment. Pre-work screening is required for volunteers. Failure to pass this screening will prohibit you from volunteering. Approval process and scheduling cannot be completed by a third party, but must be completed by the volunteer. If the volunteer is under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian may assist with approval and scheduling. Upon contacting the organization, potential volunteers will be given these documents to read over, sign, and return:
    1. Vermilionville’s Court Ordered Community Service Policies and Procedures
    2. Volunteer Waiver
    Potential volunteers must provide:
    1. Written documentation from probation officer, courts, or attorneys stating:
      1. Volunteer’s First and Last Name
      2. Specific Offense(s)
      3. Number of hours to complete
      4. Time limit to complete hours
      5. Probation officer’s name and contact information
    2. Legal Form of picture ID such as US passport or driver’s license
    Vermilionville can immediately decline for failure or refusal to sign provided documentation, to disclose the specific offense(s), or to provide written documentation and identification. Vermilionville reserves the right to refuse any court ordered volunteer based on the nature, type, or specifics of their offense(s). Individuals will be screened solely by their offense(s) and not by any other means, including but not limited to: age, race, religion, sexual orientation, or disability. Vermilionville will not accept a volunteer for community service credit who is being charged, pleading guilty to, or has been found guilty of certain serious offenses, including but not limited to violent offences:
    • Armed Robbery
    • Assault
    • Aggravated Assault (assault with a weapon)
    • Battery
    • Kidnapping
    • Arson
    • Robbery
    • Statutory Offense: Sexual Abuse, Sexual Assault, and/or Rape
    Certain offenses will be considered on a case-by-case basis as to whether or not an individual will be allowed to volunteer with Vermilionville. Such offenses include but are not limited to:
    • DWI
    • DUI
    • Drug Possession
    • Drug Sale Offenses
    • Violation of Probation
    • Burglary or Theft


    If the volunteer is approved, they may then schedule shifts with the Director of Community Outreach. All shifts are scheduled in advance. If a volunteer arrives without first completing the screening process or without scheduling, they may be asked to return at a later time based on staff availability. Hours volunteered prior to recent approval will not be counted towards court ordered hours.

    Volunteer Responsibilities

    After being approved, the volunteer will have the same opportunities and responsibilities as any Vermilionville volunteer:
    1. Drug and alcohol consumption is prohibited.
    2. Smoking is limited to designated break times and smoking areas that are out of view of the public. Smoking is not permitted within 25 feet of any entrance. Dispose of cigarette butts in proper receptacles.
    3. Revealing attire or attire with drug or alcohol references or profanity is prohibited.
    4. No foul language on site.
    5. Respect supervisors and adhere to their instruction.
    6. Fraternization with staff is prohibited. Harassment of any kind is prohibited.
    7. Arrive onsite at least 15 minutes before shift to orient and assist with set-up.
    8. Remain in assigned location while on duty. If relief does not arrive on time, notify the Outreach Director immediately.
    9. Lunch breaks are 30 minutes and prescheduled according to event activities, unless otherwise stated.
    10. If you cannot make a scheduled shift, notify the Outreach Director immediately. No call/no show is grounds for termination.
    11. It is important that your contact information be kept up-to-date. Notify the Outreach Director concerning any changes.
    12. In the event that the museum should close in inclement weather you will be notified the morning of closure.
    13. Please leave parking spaces closest to the front doors vacant for visitors.
    14. Please report any problems or concerns to the Outreach Director immediately.
    Refusal to comply with this policy is grounds for immediate termination from the Vermilionville Court Ordered Community Service Program, and your probation officer will be notified immediately.

Vermilionville est ouvert six jours par semaine, Mardi par dimanche de 10:00 du matin à 16h00 Veuillez garder à l'esprit que nous cessons de prendre 15:00 tous les jours car il faut environ une heure à une heure et trente minutes pour visiter notre village historique.

Notre village historique est fermé sur Les lundis et pour grandes vacances y compris le réveillon du Nouvel An et le jour de l'An, le jour du Mardi Gras, l'Action de grâces, la veille de Noël et le jour de Noël.
