    Come take a tour on the Cocodrie 2, Bayou Vermilion District's flat bottom boat. Learn all about the history, geology and environment of the Vermilion River. See the sights, flora and fauna (who knows, and a gator or two!) Spend an hour in the morning breezes with our boat captain, Mike Fowler, and Environmental Impact Director Lorr Stickles as your guides, September 2, 9:30 AM. Life jackets must be worn, and will be provided for adults and children over 30 lbs. Siblings younger than 5 are free, and welcome, but MUST be counted in the ticket numbers (limited space on our boat...) If they do not qualify for the 30-pound limit, you must bring a life jacket for them. . Ticket availability: 21

You will receive an email once we've received payment, requesting additional information. Once the additional information is received, you will receive confirmation of booking. ALSO, if you're looking for something else cool to do after your boat tour, you can buy tickets for a self-guided tour of our historic village here, as well. Life jackets must be worn, and will be provided for adults and children over 30 lbs. Siblings younger than 5 are free, and welcome, but MUST be  at least 18 pounds with an approved USCG life jacket to sit. We have a few life jackets for children above 30 pounds. All children must counted in the ticket numbers (limited space on our boat...) If they do not qualify for the 30-pound limit, you must bring a USCG-approved life jacket for them. .     Bayou Fest & Boat Parade 2025

    Bayou Vermilion 300 Fisher Road, Lafayette, United States

    Save the date for one of the best days on the bayou all year ’round! Gather your friends, your canoe, your cooler, your fiddle, your best costumes, your dog, whatever, and get ready to join us for a day to celebrate the Bayou Vermilion! This is going to be a great time on the water, and we want you to come a be a part of it. The parade will set sail at 11:30 AM from the dock at Vermilionville, and wind all along the bayou to Southside Park. We'll have music all the way down the bayou, and of course costume, shore party and boat decorating contests! A shorter paddle is also possible, ending at Camellia. Even if you stop paddling at Camellia, we encourage you to head down to Southside Park for Bayou Fest! At the park, we’ll have food and drinks, games, and music! Want to paddle but have no boat? The BVD has got you covered. We’ve got canoes and kayaks available to help you get in the water and experience our own Bayou Vermilion.   • Les Mains Guidées: Wax Flower Couronne

    Bayou Vermilion 300 Fisher Road, Lafayette, United States

    As part of its mission for the preservation of traditional trades and folkcrafts, Vermilionville continues to host monthly workshops allowing our community to learn a craft from the Acadian, Creole and Native American traditions. Topics range from woodcarving to foodways (and many things in between). For the October Les Mains Guidées, Ivy Broussard - one of our highly experienced craft artisans - will share the methods used for designing and building a wax flower couronne, traditionally used for the decorating of graves for All Saints Day. Guests will learn to form the delicate flowers from paper and wire, how to dip them to preserve the shape, and how to bring these together to form the traditional wreath. During this workshop, Ivy will also share some of the other elements of mourning and All Saints traditions in history. You can register below and purchase tickets for $30, all needed materials and supplies included!

  • FREE Native American Culture Day

    Bayou Vermilion 300 Fisher Road, Lafayette, United States

    Native American Culture Day is slated for Saturday, November 22, 2025, 10 AM – 4 PM at Vermilionville. It’s a FREE festival with family-friendly events, demonstrations, cultural exhibits and much more. Throughout the day, there will be dancing and drumming, music demonstrations, cultural and craft displays, storytelling, tomahawk throwing, crafts for the family, and more.
