  • Courir de Mardi Gras

    Come out to Vermilionville to experience a traditional Mardi Gras run Sunday, February 8, 2026! The whole family can participate in this interactive event where the Basile Mardi Gras Association shares in the medieval tradition of the Courir de Mardi Gras. Disguised revelers, led by Le Capitaine and singing La Chanson de Mardi Gras will make their way through the historic village begging for the ingredients to make a gumbo. The event will begin at 10 AM. At 10:15, learn all about the history and origins of the Courir from Dr. Barry Jean Ancelet. At 11 AM, musician Kevin Rees will demonstrate the use of the "Chanson de Mardi Gras," with the attendees. At 11:30 AM, the Basile Association will begin run through the historic village and will end with the famous chicken chase for children. After the "run", grab a delicious lunch at Vermilionville's restaurant, then join us in the dancehall for live music from the Pine Leaf Boys, 1-4 PM.     Parlez-vous Français? Even if you answer 'un peu', you'll have fun at our Family Francophone Day! There'll be great opportunities for your family to practice your French, expand your vocabulaire, and immerse yourself in everything French. We'll play Pétanque and other jeux Français. There will be French tours of the village, music, poetry readings, crafts and more!     The public can enjoy a FREE FESTIVAL at Vermilionville for the 24th annual Créole Culture Celebration on Sunday June 7, 2026, 10 AM - 4 PM. Every year, Vermilionville celebrates the cultures of Acadiana that contributed so much to our unique folklife. Come back to Vermilionville in June for the return of our Créole Culture Day event!  On this day we recognize and honor our region’s Créole heritage. So much of our food, traditions, and music comes to our region from the Créole culture, and on this day we both demonstrate and celebrate its many contributions to our contemporary folklife.
