SUMMARY:Courir de Mardi Gras
DESCRIPTION:Come out to Vermilionville to experience a traditional Mardi Gras run Sunday\, February 8\, 2026! The whole family can participate in this interactive event where the Basile Mardi Gras Association shares in the medieval tradition of the Courir de Mardi Gras. Disguised revelers\, led by Le Capitaine and singing La Chanson de Mardi Gras will make their way through the historic village begging for the ingredients to make a gumbo.\n\nThe event will begin at 10 AM. At 10:15\, learn all about the history and origins of the Courir from Dr. Barry Jean Ancelet. At 11 AM\, musician Kevin Rees will demonstrate the use of the “Chanson de Mardi Gras\,” with the attendees. At 11:30 AM\, the Basile Association will begin run through the historic village and will end with the famous chicken chase for children. After the “run”\, grab a delicious lunch at Vermilionville’s restaurant\, then join us in the dancehall for live music from the Pine Leaf Boys\, 1-4 PM. Bring the whole family\, the kids will have a chance to make a capuchon\, or traditional pointed hat 11-3 PM. This is one historic event you will not want to miss. Mark your calendars and come pass a good time with us at Vermilionville this Mardi Gras season. Regular admission will be charged for this event: $12 Adults\, $10 Seniors\, $7 Students\, and children under 5 free.

At 11:30 AM\, the Basile Association will begin run through the historic village and will end with the famous chicken chase for children. SUMMARY:French Festival:  A Day En Français!
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, March 26 Vermilionville will host an all-day event that celebrates the French language and the vibrant cultures that speak it around the world.  Over the course of the day\, guests will experience music in French\, poetry and storytelling in French\, games in French\, French food and drinks\, craft opportunities in French\, French films\, tours of the Vermilionville village in French\, and more!  Admissions are discounted at $5 for adults\, children 4 and under get in free. \nThe event starts at 9am\, so come on and start the day with coffee\, fried bread\, crêpes\, and beignets En Français!  Vermilionville is partnering with organizations and vendors from the community to provide a truly French experience.  Pétanque Lafayette will be in attendance\, and anyone of any skill level is invited to join in a game.  UL Lafayette Special Collections will also attend with examples of Francophone offerings from their holdings.  Nous Foundation\, an independent platform for exchange between Louisiana and the French-speaking world will also be in attendance.  Vermilionville’s Restaurant\, La Cuisine de Maman will open at 11am\, and French-speaking tables will receive a discount. The weekly Cajun Jam will take place at 1pm.  The music jam features some of Louisiana’s finest musicians but is open to all skill levels.  The music jam is sponsored by the Cajun French Music Association. \nCome on out\, do a bit of shopping\, try food from around the world\, and meet a lot of brand-new friends en français!  A Day En Français — Saturday\, March 26 at Vermilionville! \n\n9am – Breakfast Table:  coffee\, fried bread\, crêpes\, beignets\n9am-4pm – Music\, poetry\, storytelling\, games\, food\, drinks\, crafts\, films\, tours\, and more IN FRENCH!\n11am-2pm – Restaurant serves lunch at discounted rate for french-speakers\n1pm-3pm – Cajun French Music Jam\n\nSteve Riley Record Release Party later that night at 7PM. \nCheck back here or on our social media pages for information as it becomes available.
