Tickets are $45 each\, available below. \nAll funds from this annual event will go towards programs that promote and preserve local cultures in Acadiana. \nNOTE: No outside food or beverages are allowed in the Performance Center. This includes water bottles\, so be aware. Also\, no large bags or backpacks\, unless subjected to search by security. No smoking within 25 feet of the Performance Center. Smoking is allowed in designated areas\, with clearly marked receptacles for cigarette butts. \n

The often-unruly participants in this ancient tradition play as beggars\, fools\, and thieves as they raid farmsteads and perform in exchange for charity or\, in other words\, “dance for a chicken.”

DESCRIPTION:Come out to Vermilionville to experience a traditional Mardi Gras run Sunday\, February 8\, 2026! The whole family can participate in this interactive event where the Basile Mardi Gras Association shares in the medieval tradition of the Courir de Mardi Gras. Disguised revelers\, led by Le Capitaine and singing La Chanson de Mardi Gras will make their way through the historic village begging for the ingredients to make a gumbo.\n\nThe event will begin at 10 AM. At 10:15\, learn all about the history and origins of the Courir from Dr. Barry Jean Ancelet. At 11 AM\, musician Kevin Rees will demonstrate the use of the “Chanson de Mardi Gras\,” with the attendees. At 11:30 AM\, the Basile Association will begin run through the historic village and will end with the famous chicken chase for children. After the “run”\, grab a delicious lunch at Vermilionville’s restaurant\, then join us in the dancehall for live music from the Pine Leaf Boys\, 1-4 PM. Bring the whole family\, the kids will have a chance to make a capuchon\, or traditional pointed hat 11-3 PM. This is one historic event you will not want to miss. Mark your calendars and come pass a good time with us at Vermilionville this Mardi Gras season. Regular admission will be charged for this event: $12 Adults\, $10 Seniors\, $7 Students\, and children under 5 free.

Siblings ages 3-4 are free\, and welcome\, but MUST be at least 18 pounds with an approved USCG life jacket to sit. We have a few life jackets for children above 30 pounds.
