Healing Traditions in Acadiana is a free\, quarterly lecture series brought to you by the Lafayette Parish Master Gardeners that serves as an introduction to the general public about the healing traditions of the Cajun and Creole peoples of the area as well as the need to preserve medicinal plants\, and the knowledge of their uses. This series is an outgrowth of the Master Gardeners’ work at the Healer’s or Traiteur’s Garden located here at Vermilionville.\n\nThis quarter’s lecture is\, “Medicine in the Leaves: The History of Vermilionville’s unique Healer’s Garden\,” At this lecture Master Gardener and folk healer\, Beverly Fuselier will cover the founding of the Healer’s Garden which was put in place by local Master Gardeners in 2011. Neka has worked at Vermilionville as a tour guide and interpreted the Native American way of life for our visitors\, sharing both fingerweaving and Chitimacha basketry. DelGizzi recently moved to Lafayette\, LA to be closer to family and explore her Acadian heritage. Previously\, she lived in Boston\, Massachusetts where she received dual masters degrees in Food Policy as well as Public Health with a focus on community nutrition.  Mimi teaches courses on healthy eating\, fermentation\, beer and wine brewing\, yogurt- and cheese-making\, and has led workshops in wellness\, meditation\, and mindfulness. As always\, we are glad to have her expertise at Vermilionville. \nThis class is limited to ten participants.
